Don Pasquale and Castanets’ Duel

4 May 2026

Muscat – Two nights of Donizetti’s Don Pasquale brought warmth and elegance to the stage, featuring the Armenian State Symphony Orchestra, Yerevan State Chamber Choir, and conductor Gianluca Marciano. The performances were marked by beautiful ensemble work, comic timing, and a strong sense of connection with the audience, and were very well received across both evenings.

Umberto Fanni, Director General of Royal Opera House Muscat, noted, “this was a beautiful celebration of bel canto that brought audiences closer to the heart of opera.”

In the days leading up to the performances, a series of associated events helped deepen audience engagement, including Lunch Music, Movie Nights with the opera film screening for aaudiences, and an informative opera talk focused on Don Pasquale. These initiatives were warmly attended and added valuable context to the production, enriching the overall experience for audiences. The combination of performance and outreach created a lively and welcoming atmosphere, with Don Pasquale standing out as a joyful and accessible operatic highlight of the season.

Equally engaging was Castanets Duel, a lively and joyful showcase led by virtuosos Gabriela Castillo and Raul Amaya, joined by the Armenian State Symphony Orchestra under Gianluca Marciano. The performance combined rhythm, flair, and playful competition, creating a dynamic connection with the audience. In a highlight of the evening, Raul Amaya was voted audience favourite, reflecting the strong rapport and excitement shared throughout the concert. Both events were well received, leaving audiences energised and delighted.
