29 Apr 2026 Rafaqat Hayah to equip couples with marital skills By OUR CORRESPONDENT

Muscat – The Ministry of Social Development (MoSD) has launched a national programme called Rafaqat Hayah (Life Companionship) to equip newlyweds and those preparing for marriage with skills to build stable families.

The programme will be rolled out in May across several governorates. It is part of the ministry’s efforts to strengthen family cohesion and enhance quality of life by reinforcing the role of the family as a central pillar of Omani society.

According to the ministry, Rafaqat Hayah focuses on early guidance and preventive awareness to address challenges that often arise during the initial years of marriage.

The programme aims to provide participants with practical knowledge to support informed partner selection and promote understanding of psychological and emotional aspects of marital relationships. It highlights mutual respect, constructive dialogue and shared responsibility as foundations of long-term stability.

It includes interactive modules on communication skills, conflict resolution and household financial planning. It also seeks to address misconceptions about marriage that can lead to misunderstandings among young couples.

Workshops and dialogue sessions will be conducted by specialists in family counselling and psychology. MoSD said the sessions will offer evidence-based guidance that reflect contemporary social realities while respecting cultural values.

Consultation corners will also be set up to provide direct access to professional family and psychological counselling. These platforms are intended to offer couples confidential support and personalised advice.

Officials said Rafaqat Hayah aligns with national efforts to promote social cohesion and family wellbeing. They added that structured marital guidance has become increasingly important amid changing social dynamics.
