H M Sultan Haitham, Iranian FM discuss evolving situation in region

Muscat – His Majesty Sultan Haitham bin Tarik met Abbas Araghchi, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Islamic Republic of Iran, at Al Barakah Palace on Sunday.

At the outset, Araghchi conveyed the greetings of President Masoud Pezeshkian of Iran to His Majesty the Sultan, along with his wishes of good health and wellbeing to His Majesty. President Pezeshkian also wished the Omani people further progress and prosperity.

On his turn, His Majesty the Sultan asked the Iranian Minister to convey his greetings and best wishes of good health and success to President Pezeshkian. His Majesty also wished the people of Iran permanent security and stability.

During the meeting, consultations were held on the evolving situation in the region, as well as on mediation efforts and diplomatic endeavours aimed at bringing an end to the ongoing conflict. His Majesty the Sultan was apprised of the Iranian perspective regarding these developments.

In turn, Araghchi heard His Majesty’s views on ways to advance these efforts so as to enhance prospects of reaching sustainable political solutions and to mitigate the repercussions of regional crises on the peoples of the region. His Majesty the Sultan affirmed the importance of prioritising the language of dialogue and diplomacy in resolving issues, thereby contributing to the consolidation of the foundations of lasting peace.

Araghchi expressed his country’s deep appreciation for the firm position of Oman, under the wise leadership of His Majesty, in backing efforts for dialogue and reinforcing endeavours to achieve security and stability across the region, particularly in light of the prevailing regional challenges.

The meeting was attended by Sayyid Badr bin Hamad Al Busaidi, Foreign Minister, Esmaeil Baghaei, Spokesperson and Head of the Centre for Public Diplomacy and Media at the Iranian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and Mousa Farhang, Ambassador of Iran to Oman.
