Suhar – A new specialised facility for addiction treatment and rehabilitation was inaugurated on Thursday in Suhar, North Batinah.

The opening ceremony of Al Salwa Hospital for Addiction Treatment and Healthcare was held under the auspices of H E Dr Hilal bin Ali Al Sabti, Minister of Health, and attended by Mohammed bin Sulaiman Al Kindi, Governor of North Batinah, along with a number of officials, dignitaries and representatives from government and private sector institutions.

The hospital will provide advanced therapeutic and rehabilitation programmes addressing the psychological, behavioural and social dimensions of addiction, with the aim of helping patients recover and reintegrate into society.

During the ceremony, the minister and accompanying guests toured the hospital’s facilities, which comprise four main buildings. The first phase includes integrated medical and rehabilitation services, featuring a 30-bed inpatient ward, specialised clinics, group therapy halls and dedicated rehabilitation units.

The second phase will see the establishment of a specialised detoxification department with a capacity of 25 beds.

The hospital will offer a comprehensive range of rehabilitation programmes, including individual and group psychotherapy, behavioural modification therapies and relapse-prevention programmes, in addition to social rehabilitation initiatives designed to support patients’ long-term reintegration into the community.

Treatment programmes will range from several weeks to up to six months, depending on each patient’s condition. Upon admission, the hospital coordinates with Muscat Recovery Centre to assess the patient’s case and design an appropriate rehabilitation plan, followed by discharge and post-treatment follow-up to ensure sustainable recovery.
