Muscat – Oman’s promising taekwondo athlete Dawood Fahad Al Yousfi clinched a silver at the World Taekwondo Junior Championships in Tashkent, Uzbekistan after an impressive run in the fiercely contested 48kg category.
Dawood produced a series of strong performances under the guidance of national coach Fahad Al Yousfi, defeating top opponents from Egypt, Russia, Chinese Taipei and Kazakhstan to reach the final.
The championship featured 986 athletes from 115 countries, highlighting the scale and competitiveness of the global event.
In the final bout, he faced the host nation’s Yosinbek Odilov, securing second place in the world, and finishing ahead of 57 athletes in the same weight division.
Speaking to Muscat Daily from Tashkent, Dawood said reaching the final was a proud moment for him and a major milestone in his sports journey. “I am very proud of winning the silver medal for Oman at the World Championships,” he said. “The competition was extremely tough, but standing on the podium motivates me to work even harder for future championships.”
He dedicated the medal to Oman and said the achievement would push him to pursue his Olympic dream. “This result motivates me to work harder to reach the Olympic Games. I advise Omani youth to hold on to their dreams, never lose hope and work with determination to achieve them.”
Coach Fahad praised the athlete’s performance, describing the result as a proud moment for Omani sport.
“Dawood was outstanding against some of the strongest competitors in the world,” he said. “Winning a silver at this level is a remarkable achievement.”
Dawood is counted among the most promising young athletes by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Youth, which supports his preparations through a specialised development programme focused on technical training, sports planning and physical conditioning.
