Amsterdam – According to The Guardian, the popular travel website Booking.com has confirmed a data breach after unauthorised individuals gained access to customer information. The company reported that it noticed suspicious activity involving third parties who were able to view specific details related to guest bookings.

In response to the incident, the firm stated that it took immediate steps to contain the issue and has updated the security pin numbers for the affected reservations. While the exact number of impacted users has not been disclosed, Booking.com confirmed that the exposed data includes names, email addresses, physical addresses, and phone numbers. It also includes any specific information guests may have shared directly with their chosen accommodation.

The company, which is based in Amsterdam, has reassured its customers that financial information and payment details were not accessed during this breach. This event follows a series of recent cybercrime attempts targeting the platform, which has also dealt with an increase in online scams where fraudsters attempt to trick travellers into making false payments.

Booking.com has already begun contacting the individuals affected by this breach via email to explain the situation. The wider travel industry continues to face significant pressure to improve security measures as digital threats and fake listings become more common on global booking platforms.
