4 Oct 2026 By OUR CORRESPONDENT

Muscat – Asyad Drydock, a Duqm-based subsidiary of Asyad Group, completed 130 projects and attracted 56 new international clients in the first eight months of 2026, as the company expands its operations and strengthens Duqm’s position as a hub for marine services and industries.

The company’s total client base has reached approximately 900 commercial clients across global markets. Its latest performance reflects growing demand for its vessel repair, maintenance and industrial services, supported by Duqm’s specialised facilities and integration with the port and industrial ecosystem of the Special Economic Zone at Duqm.

Ahmed Ali Al Balushi, Chief Executive Pfficer of Asyad Drydock, told Oman News Agency that the 130 completed projects comprised 119 vessel repair and maintenance projects and 11 industrial projects.

He said that around 40% of the new clients acquired since the beginning of the year came from Middle Eastern and Far Eastern markets.

Asyad Drydock also set new operational records during the period, including carrying out 10 dual-berthing operations, in which two vessels were berthed side by side at the quay for simultaneous maintenance. The approach has improved berth utilisation and enabled the company to undertake more projects in parallel.

In another operational milestone, Asyad Drydock carried out maintenance and repair work on 27 vessels simultaneously, highlighting its technical capabilities, facility capacity and ability to manage multiple operations concurrently.

The company’s floating dock has further expanded its operational capacity. Asyad Drydock had completed work on 13 vessels using the facility by the end of August 2026, compared with two vessels during the same period in 2025.

Beyond vessel repair and maintenance, the company is pursuing two new shipbuilding projects for various uses. These build on its previous work in the segment, including the completion and delivery of three projects to clients in Oman and the Gulf over the past years, Al Balushi said.

Supporting local businesses

The expansion of Asyad Drydock’s operations is also generating business opportunities for local companies and small and medium enterprises (SMEs).

During the first eight months of 2026, the company awarded contracts and purchase orders worth RO6.5mn to SMEs and RO12.5mn to local companies. Contracts awarded to local companies accounted for 81% of the total value of contracts awarded during the period.

The spending supports local supply chains and expands opportunities for Omani businesses to participate in the marine services and industries sector, strengthening the link between the growth of Duqm’s maritime activities and the wider domestic economy.

Duqm’s marine industry ecosystem brings together port services, vessel repair and maintenance, shipbuilding and related industries. The development of these activities is helping attract international marine business to Oman while strengthening the contribution of the sector to local economic activity.
