Ibri – The Oman Skating Sports Committee will host the Oman Roller Sports Championship 2026 at Ibri Sports Club in Dhahirah on Wednesday, bringing together more than 100 players and officials from 10 countries across Asia, Europe and Africa.

The championship is being organised as part of the committee’s efforts to promote skating sports in Oman, develop young talent and provide Omani athletes with opportunities to compete alongside international players.

The event will also feature teams and athletes representing Oman’s national team from different governorates, providing an opportunity for athletes to exchange experience and enhance their technical and tactical skills.

Saud bin Nasser Al Aufi, Chairman of the Oman Skating Sports Committee, said the championship was particularly significant as it was the first official tournament supervised and organised by the International Skating Federation following its establishment.

“This places Oman and Dhahirah Governorate on the international sporting map for this discipline,” Al Aufi said.

He added that the championship would help strengthen the culture of skating among Omani youth and provide national athletes with direct exposure to international-level competitors.

The event also supports efforts to promote Oman’s tourism and cultural attractions by using major sporting events to showcase the country’s diverse destinations and heritage.

Al Aufi said the participation of more than 100 players and officials from 10 countries reflected the growing standing of the championship and would give the competition a broad international dimension.

Looking ahead, he said the committee’s strategy would focus on expanding the number of skaters and young talents across Oman, establishing specialised training centres and developing national referees and coaches to qualify them for international representation.

He highlighted Ibri’s growing role as a venue for major sporting events, citing its qualified youth and organisational teams, strong volunteer spirit, sports facilities and logistical and tourism infrastructure.
