Manah – A documentary filmmaking camp organised by Oman Film Society has begun at Oman Across Ages Museum in Manah, bringing together aspiring filmmakers from Dakhliyah for training in screenwriting, cinematography, directing and editing.

The camp, which will run till August 20, aims to develop emerging talent and encourage participants to document the governorate’s cultural, historical and tourism assets through film.

Ayoub bin Butti Al Hadrami, director of the camp, said participants will develop ideas into documentary projects focusing on landmarks, archaeological sites, traditional crafts and professions.

“The camp aims to develop participants’ ideas through scriptwriting, photography and directing, leading to the production of documentary films that highlight the richness of Dakhliyah and the stories that deserve to be documented,” he said.

Participants will work in groups and receive specialised training in idea development, screenwriting, cinematography, lighting, editing, directing and colour grading.

The programme will also include practical production work, taking participants through the full filmmaking process from selecting a subject and developing a treatment to filming, post-production and final editing.

Al Hadrami said participants would be given one month to produce five complete documentary films based on themes covered during the camp.

Training is being provided by specialists from Oman and abroad, giving participants opportunities to gain practical experience, exchange ideas and build professional networks.

Al Hadrami said the programme seeks to help participants move beyond an interest in cinema towards producing original content with artistic and documentary value, while showcasing Oman’s cultural, historical and tourism identity.
