Muscat – The Oman Authority for Academic Accreditation and Quality Assurance of Education has revoked the institutional accreditation of Mazoon College following an external review that found the institution no longer met several key quality standards.

According to the authority, the review was conducted in September 2025 under its institutional accreditation framework. While the college met standards relating to research, consultancy, and industry and community engagement, it was found to no longer satisfy requirements in governance and management, student learning through coursework programmes, and staff and staff support services.

The authority said the review resulted in the revocation of the college’s institutional accreditation. An appeal was submitted by the institution in December 2025 but the original decision was upheld.

Under the authority’s procedures, Mazoon College will be eligible to undergo a new institutional standards assessment after one year.

Following public discussion of the decision, the authority clarified that the revocation of institutional accreditation does not automatically mean the closure of the college. It said the decision reflects the outcome of an external review conducted in accordance with approved quality standards; regulatory procedures and related decisions fall within the jurisdiction of the competent authorities.

The Ministry of Education reassured students and their families that the accreditation decision would not affect the status of students currently enrolled in the college.

In a statement, the ministry said the measures taken by the quality assurance authority would have no impact on students’ education or academic future, stressing that their academic progress and rights would be safeguarded. It added that students and parents would be informed of any future developments related to the matter.

The ministry’s statement came amid growing public interest following publication of the accreditation review results.

In a statement, the college reassured its students, their parents and the wider community that ‘consistent with the official statement issued by the Ministry of Education through its authorised channels, this decision will have no impact on the academic standing of currently enrolled students, nor will it affect their academic progression or the fulfillment of their graduation requirements’.
