Muscat – The Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Water Resources has reminded influencers, content creators, companies and food businesses that prior approval is required before advertising or promoting food products in Oman.
In a public advisory issued on Tuesday, the ministry’s Food Safety and Quality Centre said the requirement applies to advertisements and promotional campaigns on social media platforms as well as other media channels.
The centre urged traders, advertising agencies, companies, institutions, influencers and social media activists to obtain approval before publishing or promoting any food product.
The ministry said the requirement is in line with the provisions of the Food Safety Law and Ministerial Decision No 69/2024, which govern the registration, advertising and promotion of food products in the sultanate.
Businesses and individuals seeking approval have been instructed to submit their requests to the Food Safety and Quality Centre through its designated channel before conducting any promotional campaign.
The centre warned that legal action would be taken against anyone found to be in breach of the applicable laws and regulations governing food advertising.
The advisory is part of the ministry’s efforts to strengthen oversight of food marketing, ensure compliance with food safety regulations and protect consumers from misleading or unauthorised promotional content.
