New Delhi – The Directorate General of Shipping in India has issued a formal directive instructing shipowners, managers, and recruitment agencies to cease the deployment of Indian seafarers on vessels transiting the Strait of Hormuz until further notice.

This decisive measure follows the tragic deaths of two Indian sailors in recent attacks within the region. Authorities have emphasised that this precaution is necessary to ensure the safety and security of Indian maritime personnel amidst the current geopolitical instability.

According to recent reports, at least 14 seafarers have been killed in the area since the conflict began, including three Indian crew members lost in an attack off the coast of Oman.

The industry is currently facing significant operational adjustments as stakeholders work to ensure the safety of their crews while maintaining essential supply lines, such as the transport of regional commodities like nuts and dates, through these precarious waters.
