Oman, US discuss regional tensions and diplomatic efforts

15 Sep 2026 Oman US talks on regional tensions

Muscat – H E Sayyid Badr Al Busaidi, Foreign Minister, received a phone call from US Secretary of State Marco Rubio on Tuesday to discuss the latest regional developments and efforts to de-escalate tensions.

The two officials exchanged views on measures to contain the repercussions of ongoing regional developments and create conditions for continued diplomatic engagement aimed at addressing outstanding issues and supporting security and stability.

They also discussed several regional issues of common interest.

On Oman-US relations, H E Sayyid Badr and Rubio stressed the importance of building on existing cooperation, advancing mutual interests and maintaining consultation and coordination through established channels.

The call came as Oman continues diplomatic efforts linked to tensions surrounding the Strait of Hormuz.

On Sunday night, Oman announced the postponement of a regional meeting that had been scheduled to take place in Salalah on Monday to discuss arrangements for a new maritime route through the strait.

The postponement dealt a setback to efforts to reach an understanding involving Iran and Oman aimed at restoring some traffic through the strategic waterway.

H E Sayyid Badr said the meeting had been postponed “to help create appropriate conditions for constructive dialogue”.

“We remain committed to fostering dialogue that supports stability and lasting cooperation in our region,” he added.
