Muscat – Muscat Municipality has officially commenced the implementation of the fifth phase of Decision No. (8/2024) regarding the ban on plastic shopping bags, effective from July 1, 2026. This environmental initiative extends the restriction to several specific commercial sectors operating within the Muscat Governorate.

The newly covered commercial activities encompass khanjar, gold, and silver shops, alongside furniture stores. Additionally, vehicle dealerships and car care centres are now legally required to comply with the prohibition of single-use plastic shopping bags.

This ongoing regulatory framework is part of the broader national strategy to eliminate harmful plastic waste, safeguard the ecosystem, and promote sustainable alternatives across commercial establishments in the Sultanate.
