Muscat – The Dimaniyat Islands Nature Reserve has witnessed remarkable growth in visitor numbers over the past five years, underlining its emergence as one of Oman’s most sought-after eco-tourism destinations.
According to official figures, the number of visitors to the reserve increased 590%, from 19,783 in 2020 to 136,549 in 2025, representing a nearly sevenfold rise and reflecting growing international and domestic interest in nature-based tourism experiences.
The reserve, located off the coast of South Batinah, has become a major attraction for tourists seeking unique marine adventures and pristine natural surroundings. Its crystal-clear waters, rich biodiversity and protected environment continue to draw divers, snorkellers, photographers and wildlife enthusiasts from around the world.
Tourism operators attribute the increase in visitor numbers to growing awareness of Oman’s environmental attractions, improved tourism services and the rising popularity of sustainable travel experiences. The reserve’s reputation as one of the region’s premier marine tourism destinations has also contributed to its expanding appeal among international visitors.
The steady increase in arrivals reflects broader growth in Oman’s tourism sector, particularly in eco-tourism, which has become a key component of the sultanate’s economic diversification strategy. Visitors to the islands contribute directly to local economic activity through tourism-related services, including boat operations, diving excursions, hospitality and transport services.
The growing popularity of the reserve also highlights the success of efforts to balance tourism development with environmental protection. Authorities continue to implement conservation measures aimed at safeguarding the islands’ fragile ecosystems while ensuring a high-quality visitor experience.
