Muscat – National Metalcans LLC (NMC), an Oman-based decorative metal packaging manufacturer, has been awarded the EcoVadis Platinum Medal, becoming the first company in the sultanate and the first packaging manufacturer in the GCC to achieve the distinction.
The Platinum rating places NMC among the top 1% of companies assessed by EcoVadis globally over the past 12 months. The achievement follows the company’s EcoVadis Gold Medal in 2025, which placed it among the top 5% of assessed companies worldwide, and marks the culmination of a systematic, multi-year commitment to operational excellence and sustainability.
The EcoVadis Platinum rating is increasingly recognised as a procurement requirement within global supply chains. For NMC’s existing and prospective international partners, the certification provides independent validation of the company’s environmental, social and governance (ESG) performance.
In a press statement, NMC said it would continue to strengthen its certification framework through planned enhancements to sustainability reporting and supply-chain transparency, in line with evolving international standards.
Commenting on the achievement, Chaitanya Khimji, Managing Director of NMC, said, “This milestone reflects not a single initiative, but 27 years of disciplined execution across quality, environmental stewardship, and workplace safety. Our progression from Gold to Platinum rating within one assessment cycle demonstrates that sustainability is not an add-on at NMC – it is embedded in how we operate. We are honoured to be the first in Oman and our sector across the GCC to reach this standard.”
Established in 1999 in Muscat’s Rusayl Industrial Area, NMC began operations as a decorative metal can manufacturer serving the domestic market. The company expanded into export markets in 2002 and subsequently built a customer base across regional and international markets.
In addition to its latest achievement, NMC holds ISO 9001, ISO 14001, ISO 45001 and UN certifications. Its sustainability credentials also extend beyond EcoVadis. The company is a participant in the UN Global Compact – the world’s largest voluntary corporate sustainability initiative – aligning its operations with universal principles covering human rights, labour, the environment and anti-corruption.
Looking ahead, NMC views the EcoVadis Platinum rating as both a recognition of its efforts and a responsibility to maintain high standards. In an era where supply chain transparency and environmental accountability define market access, NMC’s journey from a single-facility operation in Rusayl Industrial Area to a sustainability benchmark for regional manufacturing offers a roadmap for Omani industry.
