Muscat – The Oman Psychiatric Society (OPS) will host its first international conference in Muscat on July 17-18, bringing together leading mental health experts, researchers and clinicians from Oman and abroad to discuss the latest developments in psychiatric care and research.

Dr Tamadhir Al Mahrouqi, Conference Chair of OPS2026, told Muscat Daily that the event marks a milestone for psychiatry in Oman and reflects the society’s commitment to advancing excellence in mental health services and professional practice.

“The conference represents the dedicated efforts of the organising committee, the guidance of the Oman Psychiatric Society and the support of our sponsors and partners. It is an important step in strengthening psychiatric practice and promoting collaboration among mental health professionals,” she said.

According to Dr Tamadhir, the conference will feature distinguished speakers from across the Arab world and the international community, who will present the latest advances in psychiatric research and clinical practice. The pre-conference workshops on July 17 will focus on women’s mental health, metabolic psychiatry in treatment-resistant mood disorders, evidence-based pharmacotherapy for bipolar disorder, and attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) across adulthood and older age.

The main conference on July 18 will feature plenary lectures by internationally recognised experts covering neuroplasticity and brain metabolism in treatment-resistant mood disorders, bipolar spectrum disorders, psychedelics in clinical psychiatry, and challenges in diagnosing and managing mood and neurocognitive disorders throughout the lifespan.

Dr Tamadhir said the gathering aims to create a platform for knowledge exchange, professional networking and scientific collaboration that will contribute to improving mental healthcare services in Oman and the wider region.

The conference will be held at the Sheraton Oman Hotel and is expected to attract psychiatrists, psychologists, researchers, trainees and other healthcare professionals from across the region and beyond.
