Muscat – Court in Muscat Governorate has delivered significant judicial rulings against a commercial establishment operating within the travel and tourism sector and its official representative. This legal action follows the successful investigation of 26 formal complaints lodged by consumers who had engaged the firm to coordinate tourism programmes, including international travel, hotel accommodations, and transportation services. Despite the complainants settling their payments in full, the establishment failed to deliver the promised services, exacerbated by persistent delays and a total breakdown in communication. The company eventually ceased operations, leaving the affected clients unable to recover their funds or receive their contracted services.

Upon reviewing the evidence provided, which included signed contracts and financial receipts, the court found the establishment and its representative guilty of violating the Consumer Protection Law, as promulgated by Royal Decree No. 66/2014, and its associated executive regulations. Consequently, the presiding judge imposed a six-month prison sentence upon the representative of the establishment. Furthermore, the defendants were ordered to pay financial fines totalling RO5,200, at a rate of RO100 for each of the 26 cases. The court also mandated a full refund of amount paid by the consumers and ordered the defendants to cover the costs of the public action.
