Muscat – The Authority for Small and Medium Enterprises Development (ASMED) has opened registration for its 2026 programme supporting civil associations operating in the handicrafts sector, as part of efforts to strengthen traditional industries, foster innovation and enhance the sustainability of community-based enterprises across Oman.

The initiative forms part of national efforts to strengthen the handicrafts industry, empower local communities and introduce modern technologies into production and marketing processes. The programme is designed to help associations expand their activities, improve the quality of their products and create greater value from Oman’s rich cultural and artisanal heritage.

According to ASMED, the programme aims to enable eligible associations to continue practising and developing handicraft activities, while enhancing their role in supporting artisans and sustaining traditional industries. It also seeks to encourage the adoption of innovative techniques and modern production methods that can improve competitiveness and market reach.

The authority stated that associations wishing to apply must be officially registered and actively engaged in handicraft-related activities. Applicants are required to demonstrate a suitable venue for their operations, including spaces for training, showcasing products or production activities. Associations that have received similar support during the previous two years will not be eligible for the current cycle.

Applicants must submit a detailed development plan outlining project objective, implementation mechanisms and the expected impact of the support. Additional documents include registration certificates, annual activity reports and beneficiary records.

ASMED noted that applications will be evaluated based on actual needs and may be subject to site visits before approval. The programme is expected to contribute to the growth of community-based enterprises, strengthen local handicraft ecosystems and provide new opportunities for artisans across the sultanate.

The authority has invited eligible associations to submit their applications through its electronic services platform, with the registration open until June 13.
