Muscat – Authorities in Muscat have called on citizens and residents to refrain from selling livestock, firewood, charcoal and barbecue supplies outside designated locations ahead of Eid Al Adha, stressing the importance of public safety and market regulation during the festive season.

In an awareness message issued jointly by Muscat Municipality and the Royal Oman Police, officials urged vendors and shoppers to use only approved livestock markets and temporary Eid sites licensed by the authorities.

The advisory comes as demand for sacrificial animals and grilling supplies traditionally rises sharply in the days leading up to Eid Al Adha, one of the busiest shopping periods of the year in Oman.

Officials said unregulated roadside sales can create traffic congestion, obstruct public spaces and pose health and safety risks. They added that designated sites have been prepared to ensure proper organisation, veterinary supervision and smoother movement for residents.

Meanwhile, the Consumer Protection Department in Barka has stepped up preparations for the Eid season by holding an expanded coordination meeting with livestock suppliers and livestock pen owners to ensure the availability of sacrificial animals and maintain price stability in local markets.

The meeting reviewed supply indicators for different types and breeds of livestock, as well as mechanisms to enhance market flow during the high-demand Eid period. Discussions also focused on monitoring prices and preventing unjustified increases that could affect consumers.

Officials stressed the importance of transparency in commercial transactions, including the display of clear price lists to protect consumer rights and strengthen confidence in the market.

The Department also highlighted the importance of continued cooperation with suppliers to maintain a fair and stable market environment during the festive season.

Authorities across the sultanate are expected to intensify inspections and awareness campaigns in the coming days as Eid markets witness increased commercial activity in livestock trading and related seasonal supplies.
