Muscat – Al Masarra Hospital organised a public mental health campaign at Oasis Mall, Al Khuwair to mark World Schizophrenia Day. The educational initiative was held under the patronage of Sayyid Ahmed bin Hilal al Busaidi, the Wali of Baushar, and attended by a number of senior hospital officials. This initiative was launched to strengthen public understanding of psychiatric conditions and to build a community environment rooted in empathy, support, and social acceptance.

The campaign focused on the critical importance of mental health support and highlighted the central role that healthcare professionals play throughout the treatment and recovery journey. It aimed to correct common public misconceptions regarding psychiatric disorders, thereby reducing the social stigma often associated with mental illness. To achieve this, organisers designed an innovative, interactive pathway that guided visitors through the various stages a schizophrenia patient experiences, from the initial onset of symptoms to medical stabilisation and successful community reintegration.

Within this interactive pathway, several key stations detailed the specific contributions of medical staff, particularly the nursing team, in providing professional and compassionate care. The educational stages covered the initial safe admission process, building trust with patients, understanding clinical symptoms, and the vital role of nursing in medication safety. Additionally, the event highlighted the necessity of effective therapeutic communication and family education, which empowers relatives to support long-term recovery and maintain hope. The campaign attracted significant public engagement from diverse community segments and various nationalities, reinforcing the hospital’s objective to promote public health through interactive and modern community partnerships.
