Salalah – Dhofar Municipality on Wednesday signed an agreement with the Ministry of Energy and Minerals to develop the Ittin Natural Park project in Salalah, at a cost exceeding RO4mn, in the presence of H H Sayyid Marwan bin Turki al Said, Governor of Dhofar.
The project will be located in the Ittin Plain, covering an area of 270,000sqm. Envisioned as an integrated leisure and tourism destination, the park aims to offer a blend of nature, relaxation and family-oriented activities. Plans include a water canal, designated play and recreation areas, restaurants, rest areas, an events zone, and comprehensive public facilities.
The development stands out as a product of community partnership between Dhofar Municipality, the Energy Sector Social Responsibility Development Foundation and Petroleum Development Oman (PDO), reflecting coordinated efforts between government entities, the private sector and the local community. The initiative is expected to boost tourism activity, particularly during the khareef season, while enhancing the utilisation of the governorate’s rich natural assets.
The agreement forms part of ongoing efforts to strengthen Dhofar’s tourism and recreational infrastructure, support sustainable development initiatives and social responsibility programmes, and improve overall quality of life.
The contract was signed by Abdullah Mohammed Bawain, Director General of Projects and Technical Affairs, Dhofar Municipality, while Hafeedh bin Salem Al Haddad signed for the executing company, and Abdullah bin Mubarak Al Shakili, Head of Social Responsibility, represented PDO.
