Muscat – The Ministry of Health (MoH) has launched a nationwide awareness campaign highlighting the importance of the seasonal influenza vaccine, describing it as one of the most effective tools to prevent infection and reduce complications, particularly among high-risk groups.

The campaign is part of the ministry’s annual preventive efforts and aims to raise public awareness about the need for regular vaccination, especially ahead of the peak season for respiratory viruses. Target groups include the elderly, healthcare workers, pregnant women, pilgrims (Haj and Umrah), as well as children and adults with chronic illnesses or weakened immune systems.

In its outreach, MoH emphasised that the vaccine plays a key role in lowering infection rates and reducing hospital admissions. It reaffirmed that the influenza vaccine is safe, effective and widely available across government healthcare facilities. The ministry also stressed that vaccination not only protects individuals but contributes to wider community protection by limiting the spread of infection.

The campaign also seeks to address common misconceptions about the vaccine by sharing clear, science-based information through social media platforms and mainstream media, alongside on-ground activities in health centres and public spaces.

MoH urged residents to book appointments and get vaccinated without delay, underlining the fact that prevention remains the most effective way to safeguard public health, particularly for vulnerable groups. Employers have also been encouraged to support staff vaccination as part of a broader collective effort to curb seasonal illnesses.
