Muscat – An initiative is inviting young people in Oman to turn the lens on climate change, using short-form video to spark dialogue and action.
Launched by the Embassy of the Netherlands in Oman, the competition calls on youth aged 18 to 30 to produce one- to two-minute videos that reflect their personal climate stories. The announcement was made during King’s Day celebrations on April 27 in the presence of H E Maartje Peters, Ambassador of the Netherlands, and diplomatic guests.
Open to teams of two to five members, the campaign encourages collaboration and diverse perspectives. Participants are asked to frame climate change within the Omani context, whether by highlighting environmental challenges, sustainable practices or local innovations.
An official said the initiative aligns with a global push to place young people at the centre of climate discourse. “By combining storytelling with digital media, the campaign aims to turn awareness into action,” the official said. “It encourages youth in Oman to become advocates for a sustainable future through authentic narratives that can spark conversation and drive impact.”
The competition leverages the growing reach of short-form content on platforms such as Instagram, reflecting how climate messaging is increasingly shaped by digital engagement.
“The competition is more than a contest. It is an opportunity to create impact by using creativity as a tool for change,” the official added.
Entry forms can be downloaded from the embassy’s Instagram page @nlinoman and submission is open till June 20.
The initiative underscores the role of youth-led communication in advancing climate awareness in a region facing rising temperatures, water stress and environmental pressures.
