Muscat – The Telecommunications Regulatory Authority (TRA) has issued its 2026 Field Survey Plan as part of ongoing efforts to measure the quality of telecommunications services and enhance network efficiency across Oman.

The plan targets 69 field visits and on-ground surveys covering several governorates and key locations, including town centres, major roads, shopping malls and event venues.

The surveys are designed to support regulatory decision-making, assess network quality and performance, promote transparency and competition, and improve the overall digital user experience.

TRA said it relies on specialised measurement tools and approved methodologies that replicate real user experience. Key performance indicators include voice quality, call success rates, data download and upload speeds, network access latency, signal strength and coverage, as well as the performance of social media applications.

The authority revealed that 223 field surveys were conducted between 2021 and 2025, underscoring sustained efforts to monitor and improve service quality nationwide.

Findings from these surveys contributed to the rollout of 62 telecom development projects, including 39 network enhancement initiatives, four fibre optic projects, and the establishment of 19 new telecommunications stations.

TRA added that it will continue publishing survey results through its official channels to raise consumer awareness and encourage competition among service providers, driving further improvements in service quality.
