Muscat – An initiative titled ‘Award for Ideal Mother of Person with Intellectual Disabilities’ – the first of its kind in the sultanate – will be launched on Friday to honour mothers who have shown extraordinary dedication in caring for children with intellectual disabilities.

Speaking to Muscat Daily, H H Sayyida Hujaija bint Jaifer Al Said, founder of Link Company and the brain behind the initiative, said the award aims to recognise the resilience, patience and compassion of mothers who devote their lives to supporting individuals with intellectual disabilities.

The award ceremony will be held under the patronage of H E Saud bin Hilal Al Busaidi, Minister of Culture, Sports and Youth, with support from Sheikha Amina bint Saud Bahwan Al Makhini, Chairperson of Al Yusr Charitable Foundation.

The award is part of the Motherhood Initiative under the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Youth within the Youth Initiatives Support Programme, which aims to empower volunteer initiatives serving the community.

H H Sayyida Hujaija said the initiative will honour mothers from all 11 governorates who have demonstrated exceptional patience and dedication in caring for individuals with intellectual disabilities, highlighting inspiring human stories worthy of national recognition.

The event will also recognise pioneering women involved in volunteer work since the 1970s for their contributions to supporting persons with disabilities and promoting community awareness and humanitarian initiatives in the sultanate.
