USA – A growing number of United States lawmakers are formally urging the administration to remove President Donald Trump from office by invoking the 25th Amendment of the US Constitution. This specific legal mechanism allows for the transfer of executive power if a president is deemed unable to discharge their duties. The movement gained significant momentum following recent escalations in rhetoric concerning military actions and threats against civilian infrastructure in Iran.
Arizona Congresswoman Yassamin Ansari expressed grave concerns regarding the legality of current military strategies. She argued that the administration’s recent threats to target essential services cross established international lines, suggesting that such actions constitute war crimes. During a recent discussion, Ansari stated, “Trump is escalating a devastating, illegal war, threatening massive war crimes and targeting civilian infrastructure. In the last 48 hours alone, the rhetoric has crossed every line.”
The sentiment was echoed by other prominent members of Congress. Representative Ilhan Omar of Minnesota described the situation as critical, noting, “This is not okay. Invoke the 25th Amendment. Impeach. Remove. This unhinged person must be removed from office.” Similarly, Congresswoman Melanie Stansbury of New Mexico insisted that both the Cabinet and Congress have a duty to intervene immediately, remarking, “Time for the 25th Amendment. Congress and the Cabinet must act.”
The debate has transcended party lines, with former Republican Congressman Joe Walsh adding his voice to the calls for removal. He commented, “He will forever be a stain on this country and the world. 25th Amendment. Now.” Senator Chris Murphy of Connecticut also weighed in on the president’s mental fitness, suggesting that the Cabinet should be in deep consultation with legal experts. “If I were in Trump’s Cabinet, I would spend Easter calling constitutional lawyers,” Murphy said. “This is completely, utterly unhinged. He’s already killed thousands. He’s going to kill thousands more.”
