Muscat In a display of community support, 19 young men from Muscat governorate celebrated their wedding together at a mass ceremony held at Amerat Park on Friday.

The event was organised by the Amerat Charity Team in cooperation with the Office of the Wali of Amerat and Muscat Municipality to help ease the financial burden of marriage and encourage young people to begin their married lives with confidence and stability.

The celebration brought together families, volunteers and community members in a festive atmosphere featuring traditional Omani folk performances, highlighting the spirit of unity and social solidarity that such initiatives promote.

Speaking to Muscat Daily, Adel Al Maashari, head of the Amerat Charity Team, said that mass weddings represent an important social initiative that reinforces the values of cooperation and solidarity within society.

“Mass weddings provide a practical model of how communities can work together to support young people embarking on married life and help reduce the financial burdens they may face,” he said. “With the rising costs of weddings in many communities, such initiatives offer a positive solution that facilitates marriage and encourages young people to build stable families based on affection and mutual respect.”

Al Maashari noted that the initiative goes beyond financial assistance, helping to strengthen ties between official institutions, community organisations and volunteers while promoting a culture of social solidarity.

He added that the mass wedding was the fifth organised by the team, following four successful editions in previous years. The first mass wedding, held in 2014, benefited around 37 grooms, followed by 40 in the second, 32 in the third and 29 in the fourth edition.

The latest event was organised as part of wider community efforts aimed at supporting young people and encouraging a culture of cooperation and volunteerism. According to Maashari, such initiatives also play a key role in promoting the concept of simplified weddings and reducing unnecessary extravagance, helping couples begin their married lives with greater confidence and stability.

He explained that the wedding forms part of the Mass Wedding Support Fund initiative launched under the directives of His Majesty Sultan Haitham bin Tarik. Through the initiative, each groom received financial support of RO2,000, while the charity team organised the ceremony and provided in-kind gifts for the participants.

Established in 2013 under the umbrella of the Social Development Committee in the wilayat, the Amerat Charity Team implements charitable and volunteer programmes, including awareness campaigns, social and cultural activities, and sports events throughout the year.
