4 Apr 2026 MHT signs deal to develop Al Wasil Fort By OUR CORRESPONDENT

Bidiyah – The Ministry of Heritage and Tourism (MHT) signed an agreement on Thursday with Wasil Investment Company for the development, operations and utilisation of Al Wasil Fort in Bidiyah.

The agreement was signed on behalf of the ministry by H E Ibrahim Said Al Kharousi, Undersecretary for Heritage in MHT.

This is part of the ministry’s efforts to maximise the value of heritage and cultural assets and enhance their contribution to economic growth. Al Wasil Fort is regarded as one of the most prominent historical landmarks in North Sharqiyah, noted for its rich cultural and civilisational heritage.

The project is expected to boost tourism by attracting visitors from within and outside the sultanate, while consolidating the role of the private sector in the management, operations and development of archaeological and heritage sites.

It will also open new investment opportunities in tourism and cultural activities, including the organisation of events and traditional craft exhibitions, in addition to creating direct and indirect employment opportunities for the local community.

Once developed and operated in line with modern standards, the fort is expected to become a key economic contributor by increasing tourism spending, supporting entrepreneurs in hospitality and related services, and reinforcing its position as a prominent cultural and tourism destination on Oman’s tourism map.
