Muscat – Oman participated in the 165th ordinary session of the Council of the League of Arab States at the ministerial level, conducted via video conference on Sunday, March 29. Representing the Sultanate, H E Sheikh Khalifa Ali al Harthy, Undersecretary for Political Affairs in the Foreign Ministry joined fellow Arab ministers to address the critical security challenges currently facing the region. The high-level talks focused on the dangerous escalation of events and their broader implications for regional peace, global interests, and the stability of international corridors.

A primary agenda item was the unanimous recommendation for the next Secretary-General of the Arab League. Member states endorsed the nomination of Ambassador Nabil Fahmy, Egypt’s former Foreign Minister, to succeed the current chief, Ahmed Aboul Gheit. This recommendation is set to be formally presented to Arab leaders for final approval at the upcoming Arab Summit in Saudi Arabia.

The session also featured a unified stance against recent threats to state sovereignty and territorial integrity within the region. In alignment with its long-standing foreign policy, Oman emphasised the necessity of diplomatic dialogue and the preservation of regional security. The meeting concluded with a commitment to maintaining collective Arab interests and fostering a collaborative approach to navigating the ongoing geopolitical tensions that impact both regional and global stability.
