29 Mar 2026 Rains, strong winds forecast across Oman from Tuesday

Muscat – The latest forecasts and analyses issued by the National Multi Hazard Early Warning Center indicate that Oman is expected to be affected by a trough of low pressure from Tuesday evening until Thursday morning, April 2. The weather system may bring rainfall of varying intensity, accompanied by active winds that could lead to flash floods in wadis and reduced horizontal visibility during rainfall.

According to the center, cloud formation is expected to begin Tuesday evening over several governorates, including Musandam, Buraimi, Dhahirah, North Batinah, Al Wusta and Dhofar, with chances of scattered rainfall and occasional thundershowers.

The impact during this phase is expected to remain limited, it added. ‘The initial effects may include light to moderate rainfall with limited flash flooding in wadis, along with light to moderate winds ranging between 10 and 20 knots.’

Forecasts from Wednesday evening through Thursday morning indicate continued cloud development and rainfall across a wider area, including Musandam, Buraimi, Dhahirah, North Batinah, South Batinah, Muscat, Dakhliyah, North Sharqiyah, South Sharqiyah and Al Wusta, with the possibility of rainfall extending to Dhofar. Rainfall intensity may vary and could be accompanied by thunderstorms.

The expected impact during this period ranges from low to moderate, with the potential for flash floods in wadis and valleys, as well as active winds ranging between 15 and 30 knots.

The sea is also expected to be moderate to rough along most of the coasts of Oman, with wave heights reaching between 2m to 3m. Authorities have therefore advised fishermen and seafarers to avoid venturing into the sea during periods of thunderstorm activity.

Meanwhile, the Civil Aviation Authority has urged the public to exercise caution during rainfall and potential flash floods, remain alert to reduced visibility, check sea conditions before heading out, and follow official weather bulletins and updates.
