Muscat – Muscat Municipality marked Earth Hour 2026 on Saturday by switching off lights at key locations across the capital from 8.30pm to 9.30pm, reaffirming its commitment to sustainability and environmental protection.

The participation was held under the theme ‘Our Power, Our Planet’, underscoring the importance of collective action in addressing environmental challenges and raising awareness on climate change.

Lights were turned off for one hour at several municipal buildings and public facilities as a symbolic gesture to encourage energy conservation and environmentally responsible practices.

Locations included the Muscat Governorate General Office, the Muscat Municipality Headquarters, the ‘Muscat Sign’ on Al Jabal Street, Riyam Park and the Ministries District Walkway in Al Khuwair.

The municipality said the initiative reflects its continued support for environmental programmes that contribute to sustainable development and the preservation of natural resources. It also stressed the importance of community participation, noting that individual actions can collectively support climate action.

Residents and institutions were urged to adopt energy-saving practices and back sustainability initiatives to help safeguard the environment for future generations.

Earth Hour is one of the world’s largest environmental movements, with cities, organisations and individuals switching off non-essential lights.
