Muscat – The Consumer Protection Authority (CPA) has intensified its market inspections across Oman to ensure stability in the supply of goods and services following the recent weather disturbances.
The authority said the monitoring campaign aims to ensure the availability of essential commodities and consumer goods while promoting compliance with market regulations and approved standards among suppliers.
Inspection teams are focusing on verifying that retailers adhere to declared prices and do not exploit the recent weather conditions through price hikes or hoarding. The teams are also checking the efficiency of supply chains to ensure that essential goods remain readily available to consumers without disruption.
The CPA is coordinating closely with relevant government agencies to review any market observations or impacts resulting from the weather conditions. Surveillance has been stepped up particularly in areas that witnessed increased consumer demand during the weather event.
The authority also commended consumers for their awareness and cooperation in reporting violations, stressing the importance of suppliers adhering to regulations governing commercial activities and refraining from exploiting emergency situations for unlawful gains.
The CPA reaffirmed its commitment to continue monitoring markets and raising public awareness to safeguard consumer rights and strengthen market stability, in line with the objectives of Oman Vision 2040, which seeks to promote a fair, transparent and sustainable economic environment that supports the well-being and quality of life of society under all circumstances.
