Oman’s natural gas production declines 3.2% in January

Muscat – Oman’s natural gas production – including domestic output and imports – declined by 3.2% to 4.455bn cubic metres in January 2026, compared with 4.603bn cubic metres during the same period in 2025, according to data released by the National Centre for Statistics and Information.

Associated gas production fell sharply by 17.4% in January 2026 to 899.5mn cubic metres, down from 1.089bn cubic metres recorded in the corresponding period of 2025.

In contrast, non-associated gas production (including imports) increased by 1.2% to 3.555bn cubic metres in January 2026, compared with 3.514bn cubic metres in January 2025.

On the consumption side, natural gas usage in industrial projects rose by 5.9% to 2.566bn cubic metres in January, compared with 2.423bn cubic metres during the same period in 2025.

Gas consumption in power generation plants also increased by 14.1% to 1.157bn cubic metres in January, up from 1.014bn cubic metres a year earlier.

Meanwhile, gas consumption in oil fields (including losses, meter discrepancies and shrinkage factors) declined by 38.1% to 707.3mn cubic metres, compared with 1.143bn cubic metres during the same period in 2025.

Gas consumption in industrial areas – including industrial zones as well as companies such as Oman Mining Company and Oman Cement Company – recorded a 3.7% increase, reaching 24.1mn cubic metres by the end of January 2026, compared with 23.2mn cubic metres in the same period of 2025.
