Muscat – The Foreign Ministry has confirmed that the European Union’s new Entry-Exit System (EES) came into effect on October 12, 2025.
The system is now being gradually implemented at the external borders of 29 European countries, including all Schengen Area states, marking a major shift in how international travel is monitored and processed across the EU.
The EES records passport data, biometric information (facial images and fingerprints for travelers aged 12 and above), and travel details of non-EU visitors entering and exiting the region. It replaces the traditional manual passport stamping system with a digitised process designed to improve border efficiency and security.
Travelers are reminded that all standard entry requirements remain in place, including valid documentation and compliance with the 90-day limit within any 180-day period in the Schengen area.
Authorities advise travelers to allow extra time at border crossings during the system’s initial rollout phase, as officials and systems adapt to the new procedures.
