Venice – At the 82nd Venice Film Festival, the premiere of The Voice of Hind Rajab garnered unprecedented acclaim, receiving a 23-minute standing ovation—the longest in the festival’s history. The docudrama, directed by Tunisian filmmaker Kaouther Ben Hania, recounts the harrowing final moments of five-year-old Palestinian girl Hind Rajab, who was killed by Israeli forces in Gaza City on January 29, 2024.

Brad Pitt, Joaquin Phoenix and Alfonso Cuarón served as executive producers on the film, supporting the project and helping bring its compelling story to the international stage. he film features real recordings from the Palestinian Red Crescent Society, capturing Rajab’s desperate pleas for help as she lay trapped in a car with her deceased relatives. Despite her calls, rescue efforts were delayed, and Rajab’s body was found days later alongside the remains of the ambulance workers who attempted to save her.

The screening was marked by emotional tributes, including chants of “Free, Free Palestine” and the waving of Palestinian flags. The cast and crew held up a portrait of Rajab during the ovation, underscoring the film’s powerful message.

Director Kaouther Ben Hania emphasized the importance of cinema in humanizing the victims of conflict, stating that the film aims to give a voice and face to those often reduced to “collateral damage” in media narratives.

Rajab’s mother, Wissam Hamada, expressed hope that the film would inspire global action to end the war, highlighting the dire situation faced by Palestinians in Gaza.
