Los Angeles – Dora’s back, and this time she’s not just finding her way to school — she’s trekking through the Amazon jungle, tackling ancient treasure hunts, and navigating teenage emotions.
Premiering today on Paramount+, the all-new live-action reboot of Dora the Explorer reintroduces the iconic character as a 16-year-old adventurer in a coming-of-age story that’s equal parts action-packed and introspective.
With a nod to Indiana Jones, the reboot throws Dora into uncharted emotional territory. She’s not alone — cousin Diego and her trusty furry sidekick are along for the ride, as the trio embarks on a quest through thick rainforest and even thicker personal challenges. It’s a journey filled with puzzles, pitfalls, and a few philosophical reflections along the way.
Stepping into the explorer’s big (and bilingual) boots is Samantha Lorraine, who brings a thoughtful take to the role. “It’s very philosophical. It is quite introspective, which I really, really loved about it,” she said during the 25th anniversary celebration of the original show. Clearly, this isn’t just a cartoon upgrade — it’s a Dora with depth.

Produced by Nickelodeon, the film aims to draw in more than just nostalgic millennials. Lorraine acknowledges the pressure that comes with playing such a beloved character, saying, “It’s a legacy to live up to. We all grew up with Dora and the iconicness that is her.” But the challenge didn’t slow her down. The actress embraced the role with the same fearless energy Dora’s always been known for.
“I had zero hesitation when the script came in,” Lorraine shared, adding that the production team’s deep respect for the original character helped shape a new Dora for a new generation. It’s that same love, she hopes, that will inspire young audiences to pick up their (virtual) backpacks and get exploring again.
Whether you grew up saying “Swiper, no swiping!” or you’re meeting Dora for the first time, this reboot promises to entertain — and maybe even inspire — as it blends action, heart, and a little map-reading magic.
