Salalah – Environment Authority (EA) has launched a new investment initiative to develop and manage ecotourism activities in four nature reserves in Dhofar.

In line with Oman’s vision for sustainable tourism and conservation of its natural heritage, the authority is inviting expressions of interest from qualified companies, institutions and investors to partner in eco-friendly tourism projects in the protected sites.

The reserves include Khor al Qurm al Kabir Nature Reserve near Salalah, which has a rich mangrove ecosystem supporting migratory birds and marine life; Khor Awqad Sanctuary, a coastal wetland known for its biodiversity; Khor Taqah Nature Reserve near the town of Taqah, an important nesting area for marine and coastal species with views of the Arabian Sea; and Khor Salalah Nature Reserve, which has freshwater channels and vegetation that attract wildlife and visitors.

EA said the investment packages are designed to balance environmental protection with responsible tourism, providing nature-based experiences while preserving the ecological integrity of these sensitive areas.

Interested parties must submit a letter of interest with a valid commercial registration for the planned activity. Proposals should include a detailed business plan covering the project scope, environmental measures, design plans with site maps and operational frameworks.

Applicants are also required to provide company details, organisational structure, experience in ecotourism activities, and capacity to manage projects in protected zones. The initiative is part of the sultanate’s national strategy to diversify tourism offerings, boost local economies and protect its biodiversity.

EA stressed the fact that the reserves are not only environmental assets but also serve as educational and recreational areas that highlight Oman’s natural beauty to local and international visitors.
