Muscat – In a bid to strengthen regional labour cooperation and widen employment avenues for its citizens, the Sultanate of Oman has inaugurated its first overseas labour office in Doha, Qatar.

The office was formally opened by H E Khalid bin Salem al Ghammari, Undersecretary for Labour Affairs in the Ministry of Labour, in the presence Shaikha Najwa bint Abdulrahman al Thani, Qatar’s Undersecretary of the Ministry of Labour, last week.

‘This is a strategic step within the ministry’s efforts to enhance bilateral cooperation with Qatar in the fields of employment and human resources development, and to invest in Omani competencies in the Gulf labour markets,’ Ministry of Labour said in an official statement.

‘The initiative aligns with Oman Vision 2040, which prioritises economic diversification, human capital development, and stronger regional cooperation.’

The launch follows a memorandum of understanding signed earlier between the two Gulf neighbours and is seen as a key move towards closer labour integration in the region.

The office will serve as a bridge between the two ministries, helping coordinate job opportunities, provide labour market intelligence, and support Omanis either working in or looking to move to Qatar for employment.

At the inauguration, H E Ghammari said the initiative reinforces the ministry’s commitment to expanding national talent development beyond borders and into regional platforms that reward innovation and professionalism.

Among its core functions, the office will liaise with Qatari authorities to identify and promote job vacancies for Omani nationals, foster public-private partnerships to streamline recruitment, and organise awareness sessions on Qatar’s labour laws and workplace culture.

It will also offer career counselling, support services, and policy insights based on current labour market trends.

According to the ministry, the Doha office marks the first in a series of planned initiatives designed to integrate Oman’s workforce into advanced Gulf labour markets.
