Jakarta, Indonesia – Oman won the AFC Hockey Cup for the first time defeating Chinese Taipei 4-3 in a closely fought final in Jakarta, Indonesia on Sunday.

The victory secured Oman a place in Asia Cup 2025, scheduled to be held in India in August. Bangladesh finished third in the tournament after beating Kazakhstan 3-0.

Chinese Taipei opened the scoreboard early in the final with Wei Cheng-Zhe finding the net in the fourth minute. Oman responded in the 12th minute when Rashed al Fazari scored from a penalty corner to level the match.

Oman dominated the second quarter. Shafi al Shatari gave his side the lead in the 22nd minute, followed by a third goal from Elias al Noufli five minutes later. Chinese Taipei reduced the deficit just before halftime with a goal by Hsieh Tsung-Yu.

The third quarter saw both sides trading attacks. Chinese Taipei equalised in the 43rd minute through Huang Lin-Yu. However, Oman regained the lead two minutes later when Aiman Madit scored what proved to be the winning goal.

Oman held firm in the final quarter with defenders and goalkeeper denying Chinese Taipei further chances to equalise.

The victory marks a significant milestone for Oman with the team now looking ahead to participate in Asia Cup 2025 later in year.
