Muscat – Omani student inventors secured one gold and two silver medals at the 50th International Exhibition of Inventions Geneva, marking a strong debut under the Ministry of Higher Education, Scientific Research and Innovation.
The annual event brought together more than 1,200 inventors from over 45 countries, offering a platform to showcase cutting-edge solutions across sectors.
Mu’ayyad bin Sameer al Balushi won gold for his maritime safety device, ‘Etienne – SOS Rescue Device’. The invention uses satellite and radio wave technology to send distress signals to fishermen, offering timely assistance in emergency situations.
Silver medals were awarded to Mahmoud bin Mohammed al Hinai for his ‘Air Conditioning Sterilisation and Cleaning System’ aimed at improving indoor air quality, and to Layan bint Saeed al Rahbi for ‘Language’, a communication tool designed to help the deaf and mute interact more effectively within society.
Ibrahim bin Ahmed al Balushi, who led the Omani delegation, said the participation was Oman’s first at the Geneva exhibition under the ministry’s banner.
“This reflects the ministry’s focus on empowering individual inventors, providing them with global exposure, and creating opportunities for collaboration and investment,” he said.
Oman’s presence at the exhibition featured four projects: The Etienne rescue device, the air conditioning cleaning system, the Language communication tool, and a mobile application titled ‘Scientific Traveler’.
