18 Feb 2025 GCC Beach Games to kick off on April 5 in Muscat

Muscat – The sultanate is set to host the 3rd GCC Beach Games from April 5 to April 11.

Organised by Oman Olympic Committee (OOC) and Ministry of Culture, Sports and Youth, ‘Muscat 2025’ will bring together athletes from the six GCC nations – Oman, UAE, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Qatar and Bahrain – to compete in eight beach sports.

Matches will be held at various venues across Muscat. Beach football and beach handball will take place on sand courts in Sultan Qaboos Sports Complex, while beach volleyball, open-water swimming and beach athletics will be hosted along Muscat’s coastline. Sailing will be held offshore, tent pegging at Al Rahba Farm and paragliding at Al Hail Beach.

Taha bin Sulaiman al Kishry, Secretary-General of OOC, emphasised Oman’s strategic location and extensive coastline as key factors in its ability to host major beach sports events. He highlighted the tournament’s role in strengthening regional sports collaboration and improving the level of beach sports in the Gulf.

Beyond sportsmanship, the event is expected to boost sports tourism, showcasing Oman’s natural landscapes and modern facilities.

National teams are undergoing rigorous training, both domestically and internationally, to ensure strong performances.

The eight selected sports align with the region’s growing interest in beach competitions. The organising committee has prioritised infrastructure readiness, ensuring that all venues meet international standards for an optimal competitive experience.

A dynamic promotional campaign is in place, featuring a newly unveiled tournament logo that embodies the spirit of competition and Omani heritage. Extensive media coverage is planned, including live broadcasts and interactive digital content, to engage audiences locally and internationally.
