Muscat – Oman National Transport Company – Mwasalat – has started testing an advanced electric bus manufactured by MAN on select routes across Muscat in a step towards sustainable urban mobility.
This pilot programme aims to assess the bus’s operational efficiency, performance and adaptability to Oman’s urban transit needs.
First introduced during khareef 2024, electric buses are a component of Oman’s strategy to achieve net-zero emissions by 2050.
Its introduction underscores Mwasalat’s commitment to environmental sustainability and its proactive efforts to reduce carbon emissions through actionable green initiatives.
Designed with capacity for 28 passengers, the e-bus can reach speeds of 70kmph to 130kmph, making it ideal for city routes.
The trial aligns with global trends in sustainable transport, as discussed at the 2024 World Transport and Public Transport Union Conference, where electric mobility and green innovations took centre stage. Mwasalat’s move positions Oman at the forefront of eco-friendly public transport solutions in the region.
