Muscat – Omani photographer Turki bin Ibrahim al Junaibi has won the prestigious Hamdan International Photography Award (HIPA) for 2025. Founded in 2011 under the patronage of Dubai’s Crown Prince Sheikh Hamdan bin Rashid bin Mohammed al Maktoum, it is one of the most renowned global photography awards.

Junaibi won the gold medal in the competition which attracted over 1,000 photographers from around the world in this edition.

In an interview with Muscat Daily, Junaibi said, “I am proud to have won this award. It will motivate me to create more artistic work.”

This year’s competition was themed ‘Once Upon a Time’.

“Winning was not easy. The competition featured very creative and innovative participants, which made the victory even more rewarding,” Junaibi said.

His winning photograph, titled The Time of Simplicity, was taken in Masirah Island capturing a nostalgic moment of childhood. It portrays a little boy listening to the news on a radio while another is absorbed in reading a book.

Junaibi aims to promote Oman as a tourist destination through his work. “I participate in international competitions with the objective of raising the Omani flag at global platforms,” he said.

Looking ahead, he plans to hold a solo exhibition of his work soon. “I believe the art of photography can be used to convey important messages to the community,” he added.
