Prince Harry settles privacy lawsuit against R Murdoch’s tabloid

22 Jan 2025

London, UK – Prince Harry, Duke of Sussex, has settled his lawsuit against Rupert Murdoch’s News Group Newspapers (NGN) at the High Court in London over allegations of phone hacking and privacy invasion.

Harry’s lawyer, David Sherborne, confirmed that NGN would pay the Duke of Sussex a “substantial sum,” reportedly in the eight-figure range. The publisher, which owns The Sun and the now-defunct News of the World, issued a ‘full and unequivocal apology’ for phone hacking, surveillance, and the misuse of private information by its journalists and private investigators.

The settlement was reached shortly before the case was due to go to trial, avoiding significant legal costs for both parties. NGN also apologised to former Labour Party MP Tom Watson, now a member of the House of Lords, for the intrusion into his private life between 2009 and 2011.
