Muscat – Ministry of Heritage and Tourism (MHT) has unveiled a comprehensive strategy to boost international tourism in the sultanate, aiming to position Oman as a prominent global travel destination. Through targeted campaigns, partnerships and events, the ministry seeks to attract more visitors and increase the tourism sector’s contribution to the national economy.
As part of the tourism strategy for 2025, MHT has planned an extensive schedule of roadshows in key markets, showcasing Oman’s diverse offerings. The first of these will take place in Egypt from February 16 to 18, followed by India from March 24 to 27. The ministry will then head to the Nordic countries from April 15 to 17, United Kingdom from June 16 to 18, Japan from July 1 to 3, Germany from September 16 to 18, the GCC countries from October 26 to 31, and finally Malaysia, Singapore and Indonesia from November 18 to 20.
The ministry will also actively engage with the global travel industry by participating in high-profile travel fairs. Starting with Fitur in Spain in January, Oman will also be represented at ITB Berlin, MITT in Russia, Seatrade in the USA, ATM in the UAE, and several other notable events in Europe and Asia. These platforms will serve as an opportunity to highlight Oman’s rich cultural heritage, diverse landscapes, and hospitality to a global audience of travellers and travel professionals.
An MHT official said, “Our 2025 tourism strategy focuses on strengthening Oman’s presence in global markets through interactive events and partnerships. We aim to create awareness and connect with travellers by showcasing the unique experiences Oman offers.”
Efforts to enhance accessibility are also part of the strategy. The sultanate now offers a ten-day visa-free entry for citizens of over 100 countries making travel to Oman more convenient for international tourists.
MHT has ambitious economic goals for the sector. The aim is to increase tourism’s contribution of 2.4% to the GDP in 2021 to 5% by 2030 and 10% by 2040. To support this growth, the ministry is inviting local tourism businesses to register with the Oman Tourism Hub, a platform designed to facilitate participation in promotional initiatives and events.
This multi-pronged approach reflects the sultanate’s commitment to fostering sustainable tourism growth, strengthening its global presence, and showcasing Oman’s rich heritage and natural beauty to the world.
