National Museum launches audio guide to enhance visitor experience

5 Jan 2025 National Museum launches audio guide to enhance visitor experience By OUR CORRESPONDENT

Muscat – In an effort to provide a more interactive and enriching experience, National Museum of Oman has launched an audio guide service. It is designed to offer visitors a detailed explanation of the museum’s galleries and select artefacts.

The audio guide service includes 395 items and is available in both Arabic and English. Visitors can choose between two tour options – self-guided or group tours.

Additionally, the service is equipped with special features for visitors with disabilities, including audio descriptions for the visually impaired and sign language support for the deaf and mute.

It displays both audio and visual instructions to guide users and includes an interactive map to help visitors navigate the galleries and locate key artefacts.

The launch of this service is in line with Oman Vision 2040, which aims to drive digital transformation and enhance visitor experience.

By offering detailed, multi-sensory explanations of the exhibits, the service adds a cognitive and cultural layer to visitors’ understanding, encouraging greater engagement with the museum’s collections.

This initiative follows introduction of a virtual tour service in December 2024 allowing online visitors to explore the museum’s galleries and learn about Oman’s rich heritage from the comfort of their own homes.
