Muscat – Ministry of Health (MoH) will launch the National Survey of Non-Communicable Diseases on Sunday, a nationwide initiative covering all governorates of the sultanate.

In a statement, MoH said, ‘The survey, aimed at citizens and residents aged 15 years and older, will be conducted in two phases.’

The survey is part of the ministry’s efforts to enhance the health of both current and future generations. MoH emphasised the fact that success of the national initiative depends on the trust and participation of residents and encouraged everyone to actively take part.

In light of certain rumours circulating regarding the health teams carrying out the survey, the ministry urged the public to disregard misinformation and seek accurate details from official sources.

The National Committee of Non-Communicable Diseases Prevention has declared 2026 as ‘Year of Non-Communicable Diseases’ with a comprehensive plan to address the rising health challenges posed by these conditions.

The committee has outlined a series of initiatives focusing on prevention, awareness and policy development for 2026. These include updating the National Plan for Non-Communicable Diseases, forming specialised work teams, and conducting a nationwide survey to understand the prevalence and impact of these conditions. The committee also plans to amplify Omani Day

for Physical Activity to pro-mote healthier lifestyles and highlight the benefits of regular exercise.

Non-communicable diseases (NCDs), including diabetes, cardiovascular illnesses and cancer, are among the leading causes of mortality globally and in Oman. The committee aims to develop policies and preventive measures to address these conditions and minimise their impact on individuals and the healthcare system.

NCDs lead to the death of more than 4,800 Omanis every year with nearly one in five adults dying from an NCD before the age of 70.
