Muscat – Oman has hosted major sports events, including the FIH Hockey5s World Cup and Socca World Cup recently. What other big sports events should Oman bid to host and why? Here’s what Muscat Daily readers said –

Oman has made a mark by successfully hosting the Socca World Cup and Hockey 5s World Cup. Oman is gradually moving up the global sporting ladder. Oman is best suited to host a marathon and also cross-country cycling. We can attract the best athletes of the world. Also, we can bid to host T20 and One Day International Cricket World Cup qualifying tournaments for associate members.

It would be great to see the Women’s T20 Cricket World Cup being hosted in Oman. It will give a boost to emerging women cricket talent in Oman and enhance the commendable efforts made by Oman Cricket Academy for women’s cricket.

This will not only boost tourism and the hotel industry, but also be a big boost for the sports culture of the nation.  Hosting of the ACC Emerging Teams Asia Cup recently is a testament to the country’s cricketing prowess.

Oman has proven itself as a fantastic host for international events. We should consider bidding for the AFC Asian Cup or the World Beach Games. These events align well with our infrastructure and would showcase our tradition of hospitality and our scenic venues.

Oman should aim to host the FIFA U-20 World Cup and later the World Cup. It’s a great way to develop local football talent and ignite greater passion for the sport among our youth. I would love to see more endurance games like Spartan Race and Ironman.
