MoH launches National Clinical Risk Management Guidelines

Muscat – The Ministry of Health( MoH), represented by the Quality Assurance Center, launched the National Clinical Risk Management Guidelines, which applies to all healthcare institutions in the government and private sectors of Oman. 

The launch ceremony was held at Al Masarra Hospital under the patronage of Dr. Fatima Mohammed al Ajmi, Executive President of Oman Medical Specialty Board, with the attendance of Dr. Qamra al Sariri, MOH’s Director-General of Quality Assurance Center, along with several dignitaries from various Ministries and experts in the field of risk management.

The event was accompanied by a workshop on how to implement the National Clinical Risk Management Guidelines. The workshop featured directors and heads of quality and patient safety departments, as well as experts in quality and risk management from several hospitals across different governorates of Oman, in addition to clinical risk management focal points.

Dr. Omar Ayad from the Sultan Qaboos Comprehensive Cancer Care and Research Centre gave a brief introduction to clinical risk management, followed by a presentation on risk management in healthcare institutions in Oman (results and studies), and another presentation on the National Clinical Risk Management Guidelines.

The Ministry of Health has focused on developing a manual to identify and address clinical risks in order to improve patient safety and the quality of services provided, giving the fact that numerous risks may occur within healthcare system processes and procedures (both clinical and non-clinical) which could lead to unintended harm.
